How many pools of lice can be filled with the amount of lice that are now in the schools of Spain?

VARIABLES:

• Number of schoolchildren in Spain (2015) -   4.773.506
• Percentage of children with lice -    1 of 5
• How many lice can have a child in his head? -   30 (approximately)
• Volume of a louse -  6 mm3  (Volume = length  x width x height → Volume louse= 3 mm x 2 mm x 1mm= 6 mm3)
• Capacity of a standard pool 30 m3 → 30.000.000.000 mm3 (30000 l )

CALCULATIONS:

So, with all this factors that affect our small investigation we have to do some calculations.

First of all, we need to know how many children have lice in our country:

• Number of schoolchildren / 5 →   4.773.506/ 5= 954.701 children with lice    

Then , we have to calculate the number of lice that (approximately) exist in our schools:

• Number of children with lice x average of lice per child →  954.701 x  30 = 28.641.030 lice in Spanish schools ( in total)                                                                                                       

And finally we must know the total volume that occupied all these lice:

• Number of lice in Spanish schools x Volume of the louse →  28.641.030 x 6 mm3 = 171.846.180 mm3 (volume that occupied the lice)

With this new data, now, we can answer the main question.

If we have a capacity of 171.846.180 mm3 we can fill a pool with the same capacity or volume. In other words, we can fill a pool of 0.172 m3 completely.

How many pools of lice can be filled with the amount of lice that are now in the schools of Spain?

      Answer: One pool of 0’172 m3 ( 172 l )
