How much money earns Mercadona per day?

Mercadona is a company with a large supermarket chain located throughout Spain. In this micro search, we are going to estimate how much money comes after a day.

First, we make estimation about different factors of one supermarket. We know that each supermarket has 6 register boxes approximately. Around 200 people pass for each register boxes and they have a cost of 25€ average. With this data, we calculate that each supermarket obtains 30000€ per day.

6 register boxes  x 200 clients in each register box/day x 25 euros/day= 30000€ 

Secondly, we have a question. If we know how much money has one supermarket in one day, how many supermarkets they are? We estimate these calculating how many supermarkets are in a neighborhood. Average, we have 2 supermarkets per neighborhood of Valencia. In this city, we have 19 neighborhoods. So, we have 38 Mercadona’s supermarkets in Valencia approximately.

19 neighborhoods x 2 supermarkets per neighborhood  = 38 supermarkets in Valencia

Now, we must to know how many supermarkets are in Spain. We estimate that making an hipotesis, if we have 38 supermarkets approximately in Valencia, how many Valencia’s we have in Spain? We know that Valencia has 786424 people and Spain has 46507760 people. The operation is easy, we divide the people of Spain between the people of Valencia and the result is 59. We estimate that Spain has approximately 59 Valencia’s.

46 507 760 / 786 424 = 59 à  1 SPAIN = 59 VALENCIA’S

Next, we multiply the number of Valencia’s for the number of supermarkets per Valencia. 

59 Valencia’s x 38 supermarkets = 2242 supermarkets in Spain

Finally, we multiply the last result for the money that has one supermarket per day.

30000€ per supermarket x 2242 supermarkets = 67.260.000€ per day.

We estimate that Mercadona obtains 67.260.000€ per day approximately.
